Arthrosamid Near Me

What is Arthrosamid?

Arthrosamid is an injectable hydrogel designed to integrate into the inner lining of the knee joint. Unlike temporary injections, it is designed to remain in place and provide sustained relief from osteoarthritis pain.

Composition

Arthrosamid consists of 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide and 97.5% water. When injected into the knee joint, it integrates into the synovial membrane, restoring its ability to reduce friction and inflammation within the joint.

How it differs from other injections

Unlike steroid or hyaluronic acid injections, Arthrosamid is a non-biodegradable hydrogel that integrates into the synovial membrane, the inner lining of the knee joint, where it is designed to remain and provide sustained pain relief.

Steroid and hyaluronic acid injections typically provide temporary relief and are repeated. Arthrosamid is given as a single injection rather than a repeated course.

Safety profile

Arthrosamid has been used in veterinary medicine for over 20 years and in human medicine for knee osteoarthritis with a well-documented safety profile. The hydrogel is biocompatible, non-toxic and non-biodegradable.

As with any injection, temporary side effects may include mild swelling, discomfort or stiffness at the injection site. Serious side effects are rare. All risks are discussed during consultation with the treating clinician.

When it is and is not appropriate

Arthrosamid is typically most appropriate for patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis. If your arthritis is very early, other approaches may be more suitable. If it is very advanced, knee replacement may be a better option. This is assessed individually by the clinician at consultation.

Arthrosamid is not a replacement for knee replacement surgery. It is a treatment option some patients explore before considering major surgery.
